Description:Haywood Abbey, or Abbey House, is a 17th century building, much renewed and enlarged during the 19th century. It stands on the corner of Mill Lane and the Main Road through Great Haywood and stands next to a barn of 16th century origin. Despite its name it was never a religious foundation. The house belonged to the Tixall estate and had many residents over the years. At the time of this postcard view it was the home of Mr and Mrs M.B. Duke and their daughter, Miss Mildred Duke. In 1967 it was sold and was a nursing home during the 1990s.
