Description:Three special trains moved the 5th Reserve Battalion from Salisbury Plains to Brocton on 27 September 1917. They initially used "H" Lines which is where this photograph was taken but as more of them arrived for training, they took over nearby available Battalion Lines as and when needed. A diary kept by one of the Training Instructors gives a detailed and fascinating account of the daily routine, comings and goings and the training regime as seasoned troops instructed fresh recruits. They needed to prepare them for the horrors of the front line and the best way to do that was the realistic training scenarios they gave them.
